Mangaluru, Apr 9: The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital took a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability by conducting a "Say No to Plastic" campaign at popular tourist spots in the city.
The campaign, which was held at Ullal and Someshwara beaches, aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and encourage people to adopt eco-friendly practices. The NSS volunteers, led by their programme officer, Ajith K, distributed pamphlets, displayed posters, and engaged with tourists and locals to spread the message of reducing plastic usage.

As part of the initiative, the NSS volunteers also distributed biodegradable items, such as cloth bags and paper cups, to local vendors at the beach, encouraging them to switch to eco-friendly alternatives. This move was aimed at promoting sustainable practices among the local business community and reducing plastic waste in the area.
The event was well-received by the public, with many people expressing their support for the initiative and pledging to reduce their plastic usage. BNYS students were also present and actively participated in the campaign, emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.
The "Say No to Plastic" campaign is part of the college's ongoing efforts to promote social responsibility and community engagement through the NSS programme. The event concluded with a rally and a pledge-taking ceremony, where participants vowed to work towards a plastic-free environment. The college plans to continue such initiatives in the future, with a focus on promoting sustainability and environmental awareness among the community.
