Government First Grade College organises blood donation camp

Mangaluru, Apr 9: The Red Cross Unit, Rangers unit, NSS unit, college development committee, alumni association and IQAC of Government First Grade College, Kavoor, in association with the Blood Bank of Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, organised a blood donation camp on April 8 on the college campus.

The camp was inaugurated by the MLA of Mangaluru North constituency and president of the college development council, Prof Dr Y Bharath Shetty.

Addressing the students, he spoke about the importance of students showing commitment towards social service. "There is no greater service than blood donation," he said. He assured the students that those who are committed to donating blood regularly will certainly be recognized by society. He also joined hands with the students in unveiling the jersey for the Youth Red Cross members of the college.











Antony, in-charge officer from the Blood Bank of Wenlock Hospital, provided general guidance about blood donation in his address. He highlighted that youth constitute the largest group of blood donors in India. He also addressed the fears and doubts that students may have regarding blood donation.

Dr Santhosh Pinto, coordinator of the Youth Red Cross unit and student welfare officer of the college, welcomed the guests. Mamatha, NSS programme officer, read out the names of students who had done exceptional work in Red Cross. Pramila Rao, Ranger leader, proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof Geetha ML, principal of the college, and Dr Vidya, chief medical officer, were present on the dais. The camp was a success, with as many as 43 members donating blood. The Wenlock Blood Bank team consisted of around 15 members. Red Cross program officer Dr Santhosh Pinto, Ranger leader Prof Pramila Rao and NSS programme officer Prof Mamatha U jointly co-ordinated the programme. All teaching and non teaching staff and students were present on the occasion.
