Mangaluru, Apr 9: "Physiotherapists play a crucial and inspiring role in the lives of sportspersons. They not only aid in recovery during injury but also help athletes return stronger to the field," said India A cricketer Vidwath Kaverappa, addressing budding players at the Nitte Physio Premier League – 2025, a South India-level inter-collegiate cricket tournament held at the Nitte Grounds, Deralakatte.
Participating as the chief guest, Kaverappa shared insights from his personal journey and emphasised the silent yet powerful contribution of physiotherapists in the sports ecosystem. “In moments of uncertainty, when athletes are at a crossroads, physiotherapists become their guiding light, helping them reclaim their form and confidence,” he added.

“Cricket is not just a game anymore – it’s a way of life for many,” Kaverappa noted. “It teaches values like discipline and teamwork. And behind every successful cricketer is a dedicated physiotherapist ensuring their well-being.”
The tournament, featuring 16 teams from across South India, aims to promote not just competition, but camaraderie among future physiotherapists and athletes. The young cricketer, who hails from Gonikoppal, Madikeri, and currently represents Punjab Kings in the IPL, could not take part in this season due to a stress fracture, but shared his positive outlook.
“I’ve fully recovered and am now preparing in Bengaluru for the upcoming season. I hope to return stronger and aim for a place in the Indian national team,” he said.
Encouraging students, he remarked, “Make the most of this vibrant campus, its energy, and the opportunity to connect through sports. I’ve trained many times in Mangaluru and hold the city close to my heart.”
The event was presided over by chancellor N Vinay Hegde of Nitte Deemed-to-be University, with vice-chancellor Dr M S Moodithaya, director of physical education Dr Karunakar Shetty, dean of student welfare Dr Sandeep Rai, and A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences dean Dr Mitha Hegde in attendance. Organising secretary Pushparaj Kulal was also present.
