New Delhi, Apr 23: In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to the national capital early Wednesday and immediately convened a high-level meeting with senior national security and diplomatic officials at the airport itself.

Sources confirmed that PM Modi was briefed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on the evolving situation in Kashmir.

"Immediately upon arrival, the Prime Minister received a comprehensive update from key officials to assess the gravity of the Pahalgam incident and discuss India's strategic response," informed government sources.

The meeting underscores the seriousness with which the government views the attack, which took place in the popular tourist region of Pahalgam in South Kashmir on Tuesday, claiming at least 26 lives and leaving many injured.

Officials indicated that India will weigh its options carefully and respond in a "calibrated and resolute" manner to the tragedy that has shocked the nation.

The emergency huddle reflects the government's swift response protocol in national security matters and reiterates the Prime Minister’s commitment to counter-terrorism.
