Bengaluru, Apr 24: Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against the state BJP IT Cell for a social media post implying that terror attacks in Kashmir coincide with Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits. The post was shared in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of multiple civilians, including tourists from Karnataka.
The complaint, filed by C M Dhananjaya, president of the legal and human rights cell of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), led to the FIR being registered at High Grounds police station in Bengaluru.

The controversial post stated, “Every time Rahul Gandhi leaves the country, something sinister unfolds back home,” accompanied by a photograph of the Congress leader. It appeared to insinuate a correlation between Gandhi’s travel and terror-related incidents in the country.
The complaint alleged that the post was not only misleading and defamatory but also had the potential to disturb communal harmony and incite division. Dhananjaya urged the police to initiate legal action against the BJP IT Cell head and those responsible for publishing the content.
Reacting to the FIR, deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar, speaking in Male Mahadeshwara Hills, Chamarajanagar district, criticised the politicisation of national security issues. “We do not support dragging national interest into political debates. Let the law take its own course. For us, the unity of the country comes first,” he said.
Addressing the narrative targeting the Muslim community in the aftermath of the attack, Shivakumar added, “The nation’s peace must be protected at all costs. No one should politicise such sensitive matters. The safety of every Indian is paramount.”
