Karkala, Aug 13: Passengers at Belman bus stand no longer need to depend on shopkeepers or bus agents for timetable details. A new QR code-based system now allows commuters to instantly access bus arrival and departure times, as well as destinations served, by scanning a code installed at the stand.
The initiative, implemented by JCI Belman, has been placed at the heart of the growing Belman Gram Panchayat area. Any smartphone user can scan the code to view the updated bus schedule within seconds, ensuring accuracy and saving time. Previously, passengers had to ask others about timings, but now the information is available at their fingertips.

Since its launch, passengers have been using the facility to plan their journeys more efficiently. JCI Belman, which has been serving the community for 46 years, says the move reflects its commitment to social welfare. The QR codes display e-timetables with details such as bus timings, routes, and other essential travel information.
Large QR code boards have been fixed to the bus stand walls and shared on social media. Scanning the code opens a dedicated website listing all routes from Belman. Passengers can select their destination to see which buses are available and when they will arrive. Locals say the system has significantly reduced wasted waiting time.
“Earlier, passengers would ask me about bus timings. Now they can simply check the timetable on their phones. It’s an excellent initiative,” said bus agent Ravi Mundkur.
“Using a smartphone, passengers can know the exact schedules, saving time and getting a clear idea of services from Belman,” said JCI Belman president Pradeep Shetty.
“In the future, we plan to upgrade the platform to include emergency contact numbers and details of auto and taxi services — all in one place,” added JCI Belman secretary Veerendra R K.
Residents have praised the system as a step towards the Digital India vision and believe it could serve as a model for other bus stands.
