New Delhi, Aug 19: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has unveiled two specially crafted educational modules for school students from Classes 3 to 12, centred around Operation Sindoor — India’s assertive military response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. More than just a chronicle of defence strategy, these modules aim to shape a generation of students with a deeper understanding of national resilience, strategic deterrence, and moral responsibility.
The initiative arrives over three months after the tragic Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 innocent lives, including tourists, and was reportedly carried out under the “direct orders” of Pakistan’s military and political establishment — a claim Pakistan publicly denies. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, marked India’s precise and calculated retaliation. According to the modules, nine terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) were selected for strikes. Seven of these were neutralised by the Indian Army, while the Indian Air Force targeted terror strongholds in Muridke and Bahawalpur, associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The educational material underscores India’s commitment to restraint and precision. Every target, it states, was verified to ensure no civilian harm — a principle India upheld throughout the operation. No civilian casualties were reported, reinforcing what the modules describe as India’s strategic and ethical high ground. The content frames the operation not merely as a military act, but as a blend of policy, willpower, and technological capability — echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that “Operation Sindoor is not an ordinary military operation. It is a confluence of India’s policy, intent, and decisive capability.”
Structured in two parts, the modules are tailored for different learning stages. 'Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valour' introduces students in Classes 3 to 8 to the fundamentals of the operation through age-appropriate storytelling, while 'Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honour and Bravery' provides older students in Classes 9 to 12 with deeper geopolitical context and analysis of India’s evolving counter-terror doctrine.
Beyond military facts, the modules place strong emphasis on the civilian voice — especially in Kashmir — highlighting how local communities condemned the attack, offering a counternarrative to stereotypes and underscoring the region's desire for peace. The joint effort of the Army, Air Force, and strategic leadership is showcased as an example of inter-agency coordination, while the broader lesson points to a new era of Indian defence strategy marked by swift, principled, and proportionate responses.
Through this academic initiative, NCERT not only honours the memory of those lost in acts of terror but also seeks to instil a sense of national responsibility, awareness of global security dynamics, and respect for India's defence capabilities in young minds across the country.
