Sharjah, Sep 10: With hearts full of devotion and joy, St Michael’s Mangalorean Konkani Community, Sharjah (SMMKC), celebrated Monthi Fest, the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary, on Saturday, September 6, under the spiritual guidance of Fr Denis Saldanha OFM Cap. The occasion brought together thousands of faithful in a beautiful blend of prayer, tradition, and culture, reflecting the rich heritage of Mangalorean Catholics in Sharjah.
The spiritual journey began with nine days of novena, filled with heartfelt prayers, enriched by a Triduum retreat and daily devotions. Parishioners participated in the Holy Rosary, Eucharistic adoration, and Mass, preparing their hearts for the grandeur of the Feast Day. The Triduum preachers, Fr Edwin Monis, Fr Derick, Fr Rocky, and Fr Denis, led inspiring reflections, reminding everyone of Mary’s many roles: the gate of heaven, the ark of the covenant, health of the sick, comforter of the afflicted, and tower of David. Children, their faces lit with joy, participated eagerly, showering flowers on Mother Mary, keeping alive a beloved tradition that warms hearts every year. On average, 700 devotees participated in this celebration on every day of the Novena. The novena concluded with a solemn Besp (Vespers), marking a spiritual high point before the Feast.

















































































It was heartwarming to see children attending the novenas in large numbers, enthusiastically showering flowers on Mother Mary.
To inspire both devotion and joyful participation, a series of engaging competitions were organized for children and adults alike, including “Dress Up Like a Saint,” singing contests, Bible quizzes, and drawing challenges. A remarkable 115 participants, spanning all ages, enthusiastically showcased their faith, creativity, and passion, infusing the novena days with energy, vibrancy, and unforgettable moments.
Before the Feast Day mass, on September 6, donors who had contributed towards the success of the Monthi Fest were honoured with blessed candles, acknowledging their generous support.
During the mass, over 3,500 devoted faithful gathered to participate in the solemn Eucharistic celebration, filling the church with an atmosphere of reverence and devotion. The Mass was celebrated by the main celebrant, Fr Edwin Monis, and concelebrated by Fr Denis, Fr Deo, Fr Savarimuthu parish priest, Fr Rocky, Fr Victor, Fr John Joseph, and Fr John Thundiyath, enhancing the grandeur and solemnity of the occasion. Children of all ages actively contributed to the spiritual ambiance, offering flowers to Mother Mary while singing the hymn “Moriek Hogolsia,” while Fr Denis blessed the newly harvested paddy corns, continuing the cherished tradition. The melodious parish choir further enriched the celebration, creating a heartwarming and uplifting experience that left a lasting impression on all attendees.
Following the Mass, the parish hall came alive with a vibrant cultural programme that captivated the audience. Children and adults alike showcased their talents through graceful dances and melodious songs, celebrating the spirit of community and devotion. The event was expertly compered by Donald Noronha and Sharon Lobo, whose engaging presence kept everyone enthralled throughout.
Winners of the various competitions, were felicitated with well-deserved recognition, highlighting their enthusiasm and creativity. SMMKC Coordinator, Alwyn Coutinho, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the priests, committee members, and the entire community for their wholehearted support, which contributed to the resounding success of the celebration.
The cultural festivities, filled with smiles, applause, and inspiration, reinforcing the joyous spirit of the Monthi Fest and the unity of the Sharjah Konkani community.
The celebration concluded with the distribution of blessed 'kenshi' and food packets to the gathering.
