Mangaluru, Sep 29: A case has been registered against Samit Raj, district co-convenor of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike in Moodbidri, on charges of sexually harassing a young woman. The complaint was lodged at Bajpe police station.

In 2023, a BJP worker from Moodbidri was injured in an accident and admitted to the hospital. A relative of the victim’s family informed his sister that Samit Raj could arrange financial assistance for the treatment through the local MLA. The young woman then contacted him, after which he reportedly took her to the MLA’s office in Moodbidri and arranged some financial help for her brother’s treatment.

It is alleged that Samit Raj obtained the woman’s phone number during this period and began calling her frequently, under the pretext of inquiring about her brother’s health, but indulged in obscene conversations. He allegedly took her to different places, including Mangaluru International Airport, in his car and clicked her photographs on his mobile. He also pressured her to marry him and, when she refused, allegedly threatened to leak her photographs on social media.

Troubled by his harassment, the woman filed a complaint at Bajpe police station. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
