Trial run for NH-66 diversion ahead of Porvorim-Guirim elevated corridor work

Daijiworld Media Network – Panaji

Panaji, Oct 11: The Public Works Department (PWD) will conduct a trial run on Monday, October 13, from 10 am to 1 pm, ahead of the closure of key stretches of National Highway 66 for the construction of the elevated corridor between Porvorim and Guirim.

North Goa District Magistrate Ankit Yadav (IAS) stated that the closure will affect the Aradi Junction–Holy Family Church Junction (P8–P16) and O’Coqueiro Junction–Shivaji Chowk (P55–P67) stretches. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed on the closed sections.

Heavy vehicles heading towards Panaji will be diverted via Karaswada–Bicholim, while those moving towards Mapusa will take the Panaji–Old Goa–Sankhalim–Bicholim–Assonora–Tivim route. Light vehicles will follow alternate routes through Socorro and B B Borkar Road to reach Panaji, while traffic to Mapusa will be redirected via CHOGM Road, Sangolda and Guirim.

The PWD has assured that local residents and businesses will have access, with traffic marshals deployed round the clock and clear signage installed to ensure smooth and safe movement. The trial run aims to test the diversion plan before the full closure comes into effect for the elevated corridor project.
