Panaji, Oct 19: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has raised alarms over the deteriorating condition of roads, unsafe junctions, and inadequate traffic management in South Goa, warning that these issues are impacting both quality of life and trade efficiency.
In a detailed representation submitted to South Goa Collector Egna Cleema, IAS, a GCCI delegation led by Logistics Committee Chairman Chandrakant Gawas highlighted critical infrastructure and safety concerns demanding urgent intervention.

Among the primary concerns was the partial repair work on the Goa–Belgaum Road via Anmod. While the reopening of this vital trade corridor was welcomed, the Chamber urged authorities to expedite completion of pending repairs, particularly the three-metre damaged stretch at Ramnagar.
The GCCI also identified the Verna junction as a major accident blackspot, calling for dedicated traffic police deployment, strict speed monitoring, and enhanced road signage to prevent mishaps. The poor condition of the Old Borim Bridge was another key concern, with the Chamber seeking updates on new construction progress while ensuring the maintenance of the existing structure.
Beyond road issues, the trade body recommended establishing truck termini in South and North Goa to ease highway congestion, curbing indiscriminate garbage dumping along major routes, and strengthening marine safety through post-monsoon vessel checks.
Collector Cleema assured the delegation that all issues would be examined and addressed in coordination with the relevant departments, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and safety standards in the region.
