Mangaluru, Nov 9: The menace of two-wheeler thefts continues to trouble Mangaluru city, with several cases reported under the commissionerate limits in recent weeks. In particular, the Mangaluru city and Ullal regions have witnessed a series of thefts over the past month, leaving vehicle owners anxious.
Between September 30 and October 30, as many as 11 two-wheeler theft cases were registered in the Pandeshwar, Bunder, Urwa, Kadri, Ullal, Konaje, and Kankanady City police station limits. Most thefts reportedly occurred during night time. In many cases, owners discovered their vehicles missing the next morning from parking spots.

In one instance at Thokkottu, a scooter was stolen within 15 minutes. The owner, who had parked it at 10 pm before stopping for a tender coconut drink, returned at 10:15 pm to find it missing. Similarly, at Pumpwell, a scooter disappeared within 16 minutes—parked at 9:44 pm and gone by 10 pm. Expensive models such as Royal Enfield Bullet bikes, scooters, and regular motorcycles have all been targeted.
The thefts have been reported from parking areas near hospitals, malls, and cinema halls, causing growing concern among vehicle owners.
Police say that despite intensified efforts, the culprits have not yet been apprehended. Investigations are underway to determine whether the thefts are the work of an organized gang from outside the district or state, or by local miscreants. Authorities have assured that arrests will be made soon.
During the past month, several incidents were recorded across various police station limits. Under the Pandeshwar police station, two bikes were stolen on September 30—one from a hospital parking area in Kankanady and another from behind a mall in Pandeshwar. In the Bunder police station limits, a bike was stolen from a cinema parking lot on K S Rao Road on October 25, while another was stolen from outside a shop on Bibi Alabi Road on October 13.
In the Urwa police station jurisdiction, a bike was stolen on October 28 from outside a shop near Bijai Kapikad. Similarly, in the Kadri police station area, a bike parked outside a hospital on Falnir Road was stolen on the night of October 17. Under Ullal police station, a bike parked behind a hospital in Deralakatte went missing on October 4, while another scooter was stolen from Thokkottu on October 17.
In the Konaje police station limits, a scooter was stolen overnight on October 1 from Malarpadavu in Pavoor village. Another was taken from the parking lot of a residence in Natekal village on October 15. Meanwhile, in the Kankanady City police station area, a scooter parked in front of a car showroom at Ujjodi went missing on the night of October 10.
Police are continuing their investigation and have urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly when parking their vehicles in open or unmonitored areas.
