Udupi: Traffic diversion announced at Katapady NH-66 for overpass construction

Udupi, Nov 12: Vehicular movement on National Highway-66 at Katapady Junction will be temporarily diverted owing to the ongoing construction of the Vehicular Overpass. The diversion aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety throughout the project period.

The project director, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Mangaluru, has requested a temporary traffic diversion and the issuance of a notification permitting alternate routes for vehicles during the construction phase.

In consideration of public convenience and safety, the district administration has issued an order announcing the following traffic arrangements.

  

Accordingly, vehicular movement on NH-66 at Katapady Junction will be diverted to the alternative routes listed below until the completion of the vehicular overpass work:

Heavy and goods vehicles travelling from Udupi towards Mangaluru shall move through the designated track marked within the work-zone area.

Heavy and goods vehicles travelling from Mangaluru towards Udupi shall also move through the specified track within the work-zone area.

Express and shuttle buses, private vehicles and other public transport moving from Mangaluru towards Udupi shall reach Katapady town via Kallapu, drop and pick up passengers, and rejoin NH-66 through the Forest Gate route.

Heavy vehicles or lorries from Shirva towards Udupi shall take the Moodubelle–Dendurkatte–Alevur route to reach Udupi.

Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and light vehicles from Shirva towards Udupi shall use the Udupi–Mangaluru service road and join the main NH-66 at the open median point to proceed towards Udupi.

Light vehicles moving from Mattu towards Udupi shall proceed via the Old Katapady Road, reach the Forest Gate Junction, and then join the Mangaluru–Udupi National Highway to continue towards Udupi.

Light vehicles travelling from Mattu towards Mangaluru shall proceed via the Old Katapady Road, reach the Forest Gate Junction, and from there enter the Udupi–Mangaluru Highway service road through the open median and continue towards Mangaluru.

Vehicles proceeding urgently to Mangaluru Airport shall be given priority to use alternative routes other than the Katapady route.

In addition, parking is strictly prohibited within a 100-metre distance on all approach roads to the worksite, including Mangaluru Road, Udupi Road, Mattu Road and Shirva Road.

The administration has urged all motorists to cooperate and adhere to the diversion routes to ensure smooth traffic management and the successful completion of the overpass project.
