Transforming teaching through personality development and professional growth at Carmel School, CBSE

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 16: Carmel School, CBSE, organised a one-day personality development programme on November 15 to enhance the professional competencies and classroom effectiveness of the teaching faculty.

The session was conducted by Aruna S, freelance academic consultant and soft skill trainer, and was coordinated by Chethan Kumar. The principal, Sr Pramila, along with the dignitaries, graced the occasion on the dais.

The programme commenced with a soulful prayer song invoking God’s blessings, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Tr Saimeen.

The training included four interactive and insightful sessions:

Session 1: Improvement of personality – Attitude, skill and knowledge

Aruna emphasised that good education can change anyone, but a good teacher can change everything. She highlighted the importance of cultivating the right attitude, refining essential skills, and strengthening knowledge for holistic personality development.

Twelve groups of teachers shared their reflections on various qualities required in the classroom, their significance for teachers, and strategies for developing them.

Session 2: The power of attitude

This session explored how thoughts shape one’s life and the transformative role of a positive attitude in personal and professional growth. Participants gained insights into how attitude impacts behavior, relationships, and overall teaching effectiveness.

Session 3: Communication – Verbal and non-verbal

The resource person explained the crucial role of both verbal communication — such as language and listening — and non-verbal communication — such as gestures, body language, facial expressions, and sign language. She also shared practical tips to strengthen communication skills for effective teacher–student interactions.

Session 4: Classroom management mastery

The final session focused on building an engaging, disciplined, and positive learning environment. Key topics included setting classroom rules and routines, student engagement strategies, motivation techniques, and behaviour management using reinforcement and appropriate consequences.

The programme concluded with hands-on activities and demonstrations, enabling teachers to connect theory with real-life classroom situations. These activities were informative, engaging, and highly appreciated by all participants.

A group photo was captured to commemorate the successful completion of the programme.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Tr Preema, expressing gratitude to the resource person and all contributors. The programme was efficiently compered by Tr Nishmitha.

The personality development programme proved to be an enriching and empowering experience, equipping teachers with renewed confidence, enhanced skills, and practical strategies to elevate classroom teaching and management.
