Udupi, Dec 2: The Udupi City Municipal Council has issued directions to private and government educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stands, railway stations and other establishments within its limits to identify and report the presence of stray dogs in their premises, as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
The notice states that the heads of these institutions must inspect their premises, count the number of stray dogs if any are found, and immediately report the details to the municipal commissioner.

Institutions have also been instructed to take appropriate measures to prevent stray dog nuisance and control their movement within their premises. They must appoint a responsible employee as a nodal officer to coordinate with the municipality regarding relocation of stray dogs and to oversee measures to restrict their entry.
As per the Supreme Court guidelines, if stray dogs are allowed to re-enter or live within the premises after relocation, the cost of relocating them again will be recovered from the respective institution. The notice also warns that any violation of these directives will attract legal action as per the court’s orders, the municipal commissioner said in the release.
