Mangaluru: MCC Bank inaugurates renovated Kankanady branch

Mangaluru, Dec 4: MCC Bank, Mangaluru, inaugurated its newly renovated Kankanady branch at the Emporium Commercial Complex, Kankanady Pumpwell Road, on December 4.

The refurbished premises were inaugurated by Michael D’Souza, renowned NRI entrepreneur, philanthropist, and promoter of Vision Konkani (MDVK), while Fr Faustine Lobo, director of Fr Mullers Charitable Institutions, Kankanady, blessed the premises.

The function was presided over by Sahakara Ratna Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank. Chief guests included Fr J B Crasta, director of St Antony Ashram, Jeppu; Sr Cynthia D’Souza, superior, Sevanilaya Convent, helpers of Mount Rosary (HMR), Bendur; and Leo Rodrigues, president of the Konkani Cultural Organisation (KCO).

In his address, chairman Anil Lobo elaborated on the purpose and vision behind the renovation. “Customers today expect modernisation and new ideas. We have upgraded all 16 branches with a focus on digitalisation, equipping them with all necessary facilities. Whatever our customers need, the bank is ready to provide. The Kankanady branch, now 54 years old, has been refurbished to ensure customers can carry out their transactions comfortably,” he said.

He added that when the present management took charge, there were only 16 branches, and over the last seven years, five new branches were added after a gap of 22 years. With permission from the RBI to open additional branches, the bank now has 21 branches and 15 ATMs.

Plans are underway to open four more branches in the next financial year at Deralakatte, Katapadi, Padil, and either Mudipu or Vamanjoor. He sought the support and blessings of customers to enable the bank to grow not only in Karnataka but across the nation. He extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries, customers, and well-wishers gathered for the occasion.

In his address, Michael D’Souza congratulated the chairman, board of directors, and staff for their achievements. He praised MCC Bank for upholding exemplary customer service and maintaining a warm, service-oriented approach that distinguishes it from many other banks. He noted the visible improvements and growth under chairman Anil Lobo’s leadership, saying, “We grow to serve, serve to grow.”

He advised that good lending practices and timely recovery could be achieved through the combined efforts of the directors, staff, and continued customer support. He conveyed his best wishes for the bank’s continued success and future endeavours.

Fr J B Crasta expressed his appreciation for the bank’s exemplary service to customers and the safety of their funds, acknowledging the dedication of the branch staff and their commitment to developing the branch’s business. Leo Rodrigues congratulated the chairman on the bank’s growth and thanked dignitaries, staff, and customers for their presence.

Fr Faustine Lobo quoted a biblical verse, emphasising that a person is recognised by the service they render. “We should live and let others live. This also applies to the bank, which should grow along with the customers it serves. Change is inevitable and continuous for all living beings, and the bank should continue its steady growth by improving facilities and services to serve society,” he said.

As part of the celebrations, several individuals were felicitated. Corrine Rasquinha, Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee and founder of The White Doves Psychiatric Nursing & Destitute Home, Mangaluru, was honoured with a shawl, fruit basket, memento, citation, and flower bouquet. Michael D’Souza was recognised at the ET Now Business Conclave & Awards 2025 – Mangaluru Edition under the category “Transformed Philanthropist and Community Leadership.”

Edmund Frank was felicitated for receiving an invitation from the Vatican to attend the jubilee Mass at St Peter’s Basilica, Rome, on December 14, 2025, and for his 75th birthday. Ivan Frank was honoured for being selected to present the “Man of the Match” award to a cricket star on behalf of SBI Life at the India vs South Africa T20 match in Chandigarh on  December 11. Melwin Dalmedia, actor in the recently released Konkani film Bapache Putache Navim, was also felicitated.

The bank also honoured several customers celebrating milestone birthdays, including John Simon D’Souza, who turned 60 on December 3, Merlyn Rego, 60, on December 7, Shalet D’Souza, 50, on December 20, and V Suresh Kumar, 50, on  December 21.

The programme, compered by Roshan Crasta, included a prayer led by the staff, speeches, and a vote of thanks. Vice chairman Jerald Jude D'Silva, Kankanady branch support director Herold Monteiro, directors Andrew Dsouza, Melwin Vas,  David D'Souza, Dr Freeda D’Souza, Irene Rebello, C G Pinto, J P Rodrigues, Roshan D'Souza, Alwyn P Monteiro, Felix D’Cruz, general manager Sunil Menezes, branch manager Ida Pinto, staff, and numerous customers attended the event.
