Udupi: One more accused nabbed in multi-crore Shiriyar Cooperative Society fraud

Udupi, Dec 13: In a significant breakthrough in the multi-crore fraud case at the Kavadi branch of the Shiriyar Seva Sahakari Sangha in Sabarkatte, Kota police have arrested another accused.

Harish Kulal (32), a resident of Havaralu village, Kavadi, has been taken into custody in connection with the Rs 1.70 crore embezzlement from the Society.

According to police sources, Suresh Bhat, the in-charge manager of the Kavadi branch and a resident of Januvarkatte village, along with junior clerk Harish Kulal, had allegedly defrauded the society and absconded. The fraud had earlier been reported to Kot police station, prompting a thorough investigation.

Police had already arrested Suresh Bhat on November 18 as part of the ongoing probe. Harish Kulal, who had been evading arrest, was finally apprehended under the supervision of Udupi DySP Prabhu D T and Brahmavara circle inspector Gopikrishna.

The arrest operation was carried out by a team from Kota police station, led by sub-inspector Praveen Kumar, SI Mantesh Jabhagoud, along with staff members Krishna Sheregaar, Sridhar, and Sharath. Sources confirmed that the duo were the primary accused in the elaborate scam that had shocked the cooperative sector in the region.
