Mangaluru, Dec 14: Three individuals have been arrested in Mangaluru for allegedly supplying the narcotic MDMA to local drug peddlers, following a targeted operation by the Crime Investigation Unit (CCB) of Mangaluru city police on  December 13.

The arrests were made near Arkula, along NH 73 towards Mangaluru, when the accused were intercepted travelling by car.

The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Sabith, 35, son of S Abdul Razak, from Mangaluru, currently residing at Shantiyangadi, B C Road, Bantwal; Mohammed Shamsheer, 36, son of S Ahmed, resident of B Mooda Grama in Bantwal  and Naushina, 27, daughter of Ummarabba, resident of Sarapadi Post in Bantwal taluk, DK district.

During the operation, police seized 87.35 grams of MDMA, including 60.5 grams from Ahmed Sabith, 15.32 grams from Shamsheer, and 11.53 grams from Naushina. Also, a white Maruti Swift car (KL-58-W-6342) used to transport the drugs and mobile phone handsets used for coordination were recovered.

Police said Ahmed Sabith had been regularly sourcing MDMA from Bengaluru and supplying it to Mangaluru-based peddlers. To avoid suspicion, the group reportedly included Naushina, a woman, in their operations.

“The accused were intercepted based on credible intelligence and careful surveillance,” a senior CCB officer said. “This operation sends a strong message that the police will act decisively against organised drug trafficking in the region.”

The operation, led by senior CCB officials, involved meticulous planning and monitoring of the accused’s movements. Following their arrest, the accused were produced before a competent court and remanded to judicial custody.

A case has been registered at Kankanadi police station, and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities said the arrest is part of an intensified crackdown on drug networks operating between Bengaluru and coastal districts, particularly targeting the supply of MDMA and other illicit narcotics, to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
