Moodbidri: Rowdy-sheeter arrested for drug trafficking in dramatic car chase

Moodbidri, Dec 17: In a dramatic operation, Moodbidri police arrested a rowdy-sheeter who was allegedly transporting MDMA in a car at Kodangallu on Tuesday evening.

The arrested accused has been identified as Tausif, a resident of Kalladka, police said.

Police seized 10.800 grams of MDMA worth around Rs 50,000 from the accused. They also confiscated the car used for the crime, valued at about Rs 3 lacs, and a sword found inside the vehicle.

According to the police, inspector Sandesh received specific information that the accused was transporting MDMA in a car from Shirthady in Moodbidri taluk towards Mangaluru via Kodangallu–Mahaveera College Road. When the police attempted to intercept the vehicle, the accused allegedly tried to flee. The police then chased the car in a government vehicle and managed to stop and arrest him in a cinematic manner, sources said.

It is learnt that around five cases are registered against the accused in various police stations across the district, and a rowdy sheet has been opened against him at the Bantwal Town police station.

A case has been registered at the Moodbidri police station in crime number 200/2025 under Sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the NDPS Act and Sections 3 and 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act. Further investigation is under way, police said.
