Tumakuru, Dec 22: While many people tend to chase away stray dogs, throw stones at them or avoid them out of fear or disgust, a rare and heart-warming incident has emerged from Tumakuru district, showcasing compassion and humanity. In an extraordinary gesture, villagers organised a traditional baby shower ceremony for a pregnant stray dog, complete with rituals, celebration and a community feast.
The unusual event took place in Dasarigatta village of Tiptur taluk in Tumakuru district. Members of Dasarigatta village’s ‘Tarle Boys’ group organised the grand celebration for the pregnant stray dog. A shamiyana was erected, flex banners were put up, and the dog was adorned with clothes and flower garlands. She was seated on a royal darbar chair, aarti was performed, a cake was cut and fed to the dog, and the ceremony was celebrated in a lavish manner. Not just that, villagers were also treated to a grand feast as part of the event. Videos and photos of the ceremony have now gone viral on social media.

Under the leadership of village youth Praveen, the Tarle Boys of Dasarigatta village organised the baby shower ceremony with great enthusiasm. A shamiyana was set up and the stray dog was honoured like a member of the family. The youth cut a cake, fed it to the dog and celebrated the occasion along with villagers.
The celebration was not limited to the youth alone. Women from the village actively participated in the baby shower ceremony and performed aarti for the pregnant stray dog. The dog was dressed, garlanded and made to sit on the darbar chair. Following this, a cake was cut amid cheers. Villagers also posed for photographs with the pregnant dog, making the event even more memorable.
The entire village took part in the baby shower ceremony. As part of the celebration, a feast was organised, and villagers who attended the event offered their wishes to the pregnant dog before enjoying the meal.
