Los Angeles, Dec 23: Vince Zampella, the renowned video game creator behind global sensations like Call of Duty, passed away on Sunday at the age of 55, Electronic Arts (EA) confirmed. The cause of death has not been revealed.
Zampella, who co-founded Respawn Entertainment in 2010, previously served as CEO of Infinity Ward, the studio responsible for launching the iconic Call of Duty franchise. His innovative vision and leadership profoundly shaped the modern gaming landscape, inspiring millions of players and developers across the globe.

Electronic Arts in a statement described him as “a friend, colleague, leader and visionary creator,” highlighting that his legacy will continue to influence gaming for generations to come.
The Call of Duty series, which debuted in 2003 as a World War II first-person shooter, has sold over 500 million copies worldwide. Over the years, the franchise expanded to modern warfare editions and is now set to be adapted into a live-action film by Paramount Pictures.
In his later years, Zampella also spearheaded the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, further cementing his stature in the gaming world.
Video game journalist Geoff Keighley, co-creator of The Game Awards, expressed his grief on social media, calling Zampella “an extraordinary person — a gamer at heart and a visionary executive who empowered his team to create greatness.”
Zampella’s sudden demise marks a significant loss for the global gaming community, but his pioneering contributions and memorable creations continue to inspire gamers everywhere.
