Udupi, Dec 29: A second-year PU student from Balkattu in Hirebettu village allegedly died by suicide after being upset over being advised to concentrate on her studies.

The deceased has been identified as Samanvi, a resident of Balkattu. She was pursuing her II PUC education.

According to sources, on the evening of December 26, Samanvi’s mother advised her to prepare for her forthcoming examinations after noticing that she was engaged on her mobile phone instead of studying. It is learnt that the mother spoke to her in a corrective manner during the interaction.

Upset over the incident, Samanvi allegedly attempted suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in the bedroom of her house.

Family members immediately noticed the incident and rushed her to Manipal Hospital for treatment. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed while undergoing treatment after remaining in a critical condition.

A case has been registered at the Manipal police station, and further investigation is in progress.

Very sad. I am sorry to say, but I feel the family members were mentally torturing her. People don't take extreme steps over just one conflict. She must have been suffering for a long time.
