Kaup: Police recover 55 grams of stolen gold from notorious burglar Umesh Balegar

Kaup, Jan 8: Police have recovered 55 grams of gold stolen in a burglary case registered at the Kapu Police Station, following a property recovery operation linked to notorious South Indian burglar Umesh Balegar alias Umesh Reddy, who had been arrested earlier in the case.

The accused, Umesh Balegar (47), a resident of Balegar House, Mallaru, Kapu, was arrested on January 2 in a Kapu police case. During interrogation, he confessed that on December 4 he had committed a burglary at the residence of Raghavendra Kini, situated on the Kapu main road in Mallaru, and later sold the stolen gold ornaments in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Based on this information, a special team led by in-charge assistant superintendent of police, Karkala sub-division, Prabhu D T, and headed by Kapu circle inspector Azmath Ali G, along with the crime detection squad, took the accused to Madurai. Acting on the accused’s identification, the police traced and recovered a gold bar weighing 55 grams, which was seized as part of the investigation.

The property recovery operation was carried out with the assistance of District Fingerprint Bureau inspector L Mohana Kumari and her staff; Kapu police station PSI Shubhakara; Padubidri police station PSI Anil Kumar T Naik; ASI Rajesh P; Karkala Rural police station ASI Prakash; Shirva police station head constable Kishore; staff of the Kapu circle inspector’s office including head constable Riyaz Ahmed, police constable Sharanappa, Jeevan Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, and woman police constable Pavanangi D H; Kapu police station staff Mohan Chandra and Raghu; Kapu circle inspector’s jeep driver Jagadish; and Udupi district police office CDR wing staff Dinesh and Nithin.
