Washington, Jan 10: US President Donald Trump has asserted that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming he played a decisive role in halting multiple major conflicts around the world, including preventing a possible war between India and Pakistan. He argued that no other global leader had achieved a comparable record in stopping wars and saving lives.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said his leadership helped resolve long-running conflicts and defuse emerging flashpoints, often without resorting to military force. “Whether people like Trump or don’t like Trump, I settled eight wars,” he said, adding that several of these conflicts had endured for decades.

Trump described South Asia as one of the most volatile regions, claiming US intervention under his leadership prevented escalation between India and Pakistan. He alleged that the situation had already reached a dangerous stage, with aircraft shot down, before being swiftly defused. “I got it done in rapid order without nuclear weapons,” he said, stressing the importance of preventing confrontation between two nuclear-armed neighbours.
He further claimed that his actions had saved “tens of millions of lives” and cited remarks by Pakistan’s Prime Minister as validation of his role.
According to Trump, the Pakistani leader publicly acknowledged that US intervention helped avert massive casualties during tensions with India.
However, India has consistently rejected any suggestion of third-party mediation in its dealings with Pakistan. New Delhi has maintained that the ceasefire followed a request from Islamabad to halt military operations, and not due to external intervention. Reinforcing this position, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said in September last year that India had never agreed to third-party involvement, contradicting Trump’s repeated assertions that he brokered a ceasefire after Operation Sindoor.
Trump contrasted his record with that of former President Barack Obama, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize early in his first term. “Obama got the Nobel Prize almost immediately upon attaining office, and he didn’t do anything,” Trump said, adding that Obama himself had questioned the basis for the award.
While insisting that he was not seeking accolades, Trump argued that the Nobel criteria should favour leaders who prevent wars rather than those who merely enter office. “In theory, you should get the Nobel Prize for every war you stopped,” he said. “I can’t think of anybody in history that should get the Nobel Prize more than me.”
The President also claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had privately acknowledged Trump’s effectiveness in ending conflicts that Moscow had been unable to resolve for years. According to Trump, Putin expressed surprise at how quickly some of the disputes were settled.
Despite his strong words on recognition, Trump said his primary concern was humanitarian. “What I care about is saving lives,” he said, reiterating that preventing escalation between nuclear powers was critical.
Trump’s remarks came amid broader questions about his foreign policy approach to ongoing crises involving Ukraine, Iran and other global hotspots. He defended his strategy as one rooted in deterrence and diplomacy, arguing that it had reduced the likelihood of prolonged and destructive wars.
