Los Angeles, Jan 11: From Sacramento to Sonora, San Francisco to Los Angeles, large crowds took to the streets in cities across California on Saturday to protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), following a deadly incident involving the agency.
The demonstrations, branded “ICE OUT For Good,” were coordinated by a coalition of activist groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the 50501 Movement, which has organized frequent nationwide protests throughout the past year, according to Xinhua news agency.

In Pasadena, just outside Los Angeles, more than 500 demonstrators assembled near City Hall. Protesters chanted “No ICE, No KKK, No Fascist USA,” as passing vehicles honked in support and amplified the rally’s energy.
The 50501 Movement released a statement on Friday asserting that at least 32 people died while in ICE custody in 2025.
The nationwide actions followed two recent violence-linked events involving federal officers — one in Minneapolis, where an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, and another in Portland, Oregon, where a federal agent wounded two people earlier this week. These incidents have intensified scrutiny of ICE’s enforcement tactics and sparked public outcry.
Speaking to Xinhua on Saturday, activist Dias Alan urged community members in the San Gabriel foothills to join the protests. “We’re here to show this country needs to change, to honor the life of an innocent woman who died,” he said.
At the rally, an Australian immigrant who identified herself only as Jenny told Xinhua she had watched several videos related to the Minneapolis shooting. “ICE is a threat to public safety,” she said. “It’s a threat to all of us immigrants.”
She also criticized the agency’s actions as unconstitutional: “ICE must be removed from our streets. They are violating the 14th Amendment and other constitutional protections. Everyone in this country must be held to the Constitution.”
