Mangaluru, Jan 13: Mulki police have registered a case under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) against three accused in connection with an attack on a farmer at Angaragudde, allegedly carried out to extort money.
City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that KCOCA cases have been registered against Kerekadu resident Shyam Sundar Shetty, Akash Poojary, and Suveen.
According to the police, accused Suveen is involved in one murder case, two attempted murder cases, one dacoity case, and one case related to ganja. Another accused, Akash, has cases registered against him for attempted murder, caste-based abuse, and obstructing a government official from discharging duty. Several cases against both the accused are still pending.
As multiple criminal cases have been registered against the accused, a case under the KCOCA has been registered within the jurisdiction of Mulki police station, and instructions have been issued to initiate further legal action, the police commissioner stated.
On January 1, the accused allegedly attacked the neighbour of Angaragudde resident Shamsu Saheb, who owns Kambala buffaloes, and demanded Rs 50,000 from him. When he refused to pay the money, the accused allegedly assaulted Shamsu Saheb and his son.
Following the incident, Shamsu Saheb’s son Sahabuddin lodged a complaint at the Mulki police station.
Taking the case seriously, the police conducted an intensive investigation and subsequently registered the case under the KCOCA, officials said.
