Mangaluru, Jan 13: A woman sustained serious injuries after being hit by an over-speeding bus while crossing the road at Bondel on Tuesday, January 13.

According to sources, the woman was crossing the road from Bondel towards Pacchanady after ensuring that no vehicles were approaching. However, a bus allegedly moving at high speed rammed into her, throwing her onto the road and causing severe injuries.

Local residents blamed the negligence of the bus driver for the accident and expressed strong resentment towards the traffic police for failing to take preventive measures despite repeated incidents in the area. The injured woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The airport road, particularly the stretch between Yeyyadi and Bondel Junction, has earned notoriety as an accident-prone zone, with locals describing it as a ‘road beating the drum of death’.

Residents have repeatedly demanded the installation of barricades and proper pedestrian safety measures on the road.

Data reveals that more than eight people lost their lives in road accidents along the Yeyyadi–Bondel Junction stretch alone in the past year, raising serious concerns about road safety and enforcement.

Locals have once again urged the authorities to take immediate action to prevent further mishaps and ensure the safety of pedestrians.
