Hyderabad, Jan 20: Popular stand-up comedian Zakir Khan, who is currently touring with his comedy special Papa Yaar, has announced that he will be taking a long break from comedy, citing health concerns and personal reasons.

Zakir made the emotional announcement during a recent live show in Hyderabad, a video of which has gone viral on social media. Addressing the audience, he said he plans to step away from stand-up comedy for several years, possibly until 2028, 2029 or even 2030. He described the decision as necessary to take care of his health and resolve certain personal matters, while expressing deep gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support.

“I'm going on a long, long break. Probably till 2028–29, or even 2030. It will be a break of three, four, or five years to take care of my health and to sort out a few other things,” Zakir told the audience, adding that their presence meant more to him than words could express.

The comedian later hinted at the same through his Instagram Stories after landing in Dubai. In his post, Zakir wrote that every show until June 20 would be a celebration, urging fans to make an extra effort to attend as he would not be able to visit many cities this time.

This is not the first time Zakir has spoken openly about his health struggles. Last year, he revealed that he had been unwell for over a year but continued working due to professional commitments. He admitted that nearly a decade of relentless touring, performing multiple shows a day, irregular meals, sleepless nights and constant travel had taken a serious toll on his health.

“I absolutely love being on stage, but I’ll have to take a break now. I’ve been ignoring this for a year, but before it’s too late, I should take the break,” Zakir had earlier said, adding that doctors advised him to go on a long hiatus after recording the current special.

Zakir Khan, one of India’s most loved stand-up comedians, has built a massive fan base with his relatable storytelling and poetic humour, making the announcement an emotional moment for audiences across the country.
