Udupi, Jan 24: One person was seriously injured in two separate incidents involving bus crew over timing disputes, which occurred under the limits of the Udupi Town police station.
In the first case, a complaint was filed by Riyaz (41), who is currently undergoing inpatient treatment at the Government District Hospital, Udupi. Riyaz works as a driver of the Navadurga bus bearing registration number KA-20 AC-3467.
According to the complaint, at around 5 pm, while the complainant was present at the service bus stand, he got into a verbal altercation over bus timings with Saddam, the driver of the Celina bus bearing registration number KA-20 AC-1097. The accused allegedly abused Riyaz in filthy language and stabbed him near the left eye with a screwdriver.

When the complainant attempted to escape, the accused allegedly chased him, waylaid him and again stabbed him with the screwdriver with the intention to kill, causing serious injuries. The accused is also said to have issued life threats, warning the complainant to come to Mangaluru, where he would be ‘taken care of’.
In another separate incident at the Udupi city bus stand, a complaint was filed by Bharatesh Kankanawadi (43), police sub-inspector. Information was received at around 11 am on January 23 regarding a quarrel between bus staff at the city bus stand. Acting on the information, the PSI, along with police staff, rushed to the spot.
On inspection, it was found that a bus driver and conductor were involved in a heated argument over bus timings. The duo allegedly abused each other using obscene language, pushed one another and created fear and commotion in a public place, causing inconvenience to commuters. Despite being warned by the police not to indulge in such acts, the accused continued their scuffle even in the presence of uniformed officers.
With the help of police staff, the individuals were detained and questioned. The first and second accused identified themselves as Vikhyath and Sharan, working as the driver and conductor of the Seema bus bearing registration number KA-20 B-4215. The third accused, Hemanth, stated that he is the conductor of the Tanveer bus bearing registration number KA-20 B-5448.
Cases have been registered at the Udupi Town police station in connection with both incidents.
