Mangaluru, Feb 4: Legendary Konkani theatre personality and the beloved ‘Comedy King’, Francis Fernandes Cascia, has been conferred with the prestigious Dr P Dayananda Pai Vishwa Konkani Rangashreshta Puraskar at the Vishwa Konkani Natak Mahotsav held in Mangaluru. The honour includes a cash award of Rs 1 lac, a memento and a ceremonial shawl.
Expressing his gratitude after receiving the award, Francis said, “I am honoured today because of my audience and the organisers of Konkani plays. Without them, I would not have been able to write or stage a single drama. Their immense support has kept me active in the field of theatre. I began writing and directing plays in my native Mangaluru, continued in Mumbai, and later received opportunities to stage my works in the Gulf countries as well. This award makes me look back on my entire journey in theatre. I am thankful to the committee of the Dr P Dayananda Pai Vishwa Konkani Rangashreshta Puraskar for choosing me for this prestigious honour.”
