Mumbai, Feb 3: National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has completed shooting for his next feature film, The Wives, marking yet another deep dive into the lesser-seen emotional and psychological spaces behind Bollywood’s glittering façade. Known for hard-hitting dramas such as Chandni Bar, Page 3, Fashion and Babli Bouncer, Bhandarkar once again turns his focus to the complex lives shaped by fame, power and public image.
The Wives brings together an ensemble cast featuring Sonali Kulkarni, Mouni Roy, Regina Cassandra, Rahul Bhatt, Saurabh Sachdeva, Arjan Bajwa and Freddy Daruvala. The film explores the personal worlds that exist beyond the spotlight, delving into relationships marked by ambition, insecurity and emotional endurance.

Speaking about the project, Bhandarkar said the film seeks to look past glamour and celebrity culture to examine the human cost of success. “‘The Wives’ is about the lives that often remain invisible behind fame. It deals with relationships, ambition and emotional survival in an image-driven world. I wanted to approach this story with honesty and sensitivity, and I’m thankful to my cast and crew for bringing authenticity to every frame,” he said.
Producer Pranav Jain of PJ Motion Pictures described the collaboration as creatively enriching, praising Bhandarkar’s ability to translate layered human experiences onto the screen. He said The Wives is a bold and emotionally engaging film that will resonate with audiences who appreciate thought-provoking, content-driven cinema.
Produced jointly by Bhandarkar Entertainment and PJ Motion Pictures, The Wives marks the second collaboration between Madhur Bhandarkar and Pranav Jain after India Lockdown, a film that was widely appreciated for its realism and relevance. With this new project, the duo continues their shared focus on contemporary stories rooted in social realities.
Bhandarkar’s body of work is known for its sharp examination of institutions, power structures and the lives operating within them. His 2009 film Fashion earned him the National Film Award for Best Director, cementing his reputation for blending realism with commercial storytelling through extensive research and strong ensemble casts.
