‘Kalki 2’ makers consider Sai Pallavi to replace Deepika Padukone as SUM-80

Mumbai, Feb 4: Speculation around the cast of the upcoming sequel Kalki 2898 AD has resurfaced, with reports suggesting actress Sai Pallavi could step into the role of SUM-80 following Deepika Padukone’s exit from the project.

Now, the makers of Kalki 2 have responded to the buzz, confirming that Sai Pallavi is indeed being considered for the role, though no final decision has been taken yet.

According to reports, a representative associated with the film said, “Nothing has been finalized yet. But yes, the makers are looking at Sai to play SUM-80 after Deepika’s exit. They think she’ll be a perfect fit for the role.”

The insider also clarified that claims of Sai Pallavi being finalised are premature, and urged fans to wait for an official announcement from the production team.

Deepika Padukone’s exit from the sequel was officially announced in September 2025 after multiple rounds of negotiations reportedly failed. While reports suggested she had already completed portions of her shoot for the second instalment, disagreements allegedly arose over remuneration and working hours.

The makers had then posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating that Deepika would no longer be part of the sequel, adding that the film demanded greater commitment and wishing her well for future projects.

Deepika had played SUM-80 (Sumati) in the first part.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2 will once again feature Prabhas in the lead, with Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama. The first film also included a star-studded cast featuring Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur and others.

Kalki 2898 AD was released in theatres on June 27, 2024.
