Karkala: Father-son held for illegal stone quarrying using explosives

Karkala, Feb 6: The city police have taken into custody a father and son for allegedly carrying out illegal stone quarrying using explosives without any permit at Nakre Hankradi in Kukkundur village of the taluk.

The incident came to light on January 21 at around 5 pm, when Ravichandra and Pavan were reportedly using explosives to break stone boulders illegally at the site. Acting on specific and credible information, Karkala city police station PSI Muralidhara Naik, along with his staff, conducted a raid at the location and carried out the operation.

In connection with the case, the police detained T Ravichandra (55) and his son Pavan Kumar (31), residents of Ayyappa Nagar. The accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.

A case has been registered at the Karkala city police station under various sections of the Explosives Act, Explosive Substances Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the incident.
