Beltangady, Feb 13: In a major breakthrough, Punjalakatte police have arrested an accused who had been evading court proceedings and remaining absconding for the past 13 years.

The arrested individual has been identified as Alvin Rodrigues (53), police confirmed.

According to official sources, Rodrigues had allegedly assaulted Chitrashekhar, a resident of Madanthyaru, in 2013.

A case was subsequently registered against him at the Punjalakatte police station. However, after the case was filed, the accused failed to appear before the court and had been on the run ever since.

Following sustained tracking efforts, police traced his whereabouts to Sampangiramanagar in Bengaluru, where he was apprehended.

He was later produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police stated that the arrest marks a significant step in resolving a long-pending case that had remained unresolved for over a decade.
