Puttur, Feb 19: A daughter who was born and brought up in a poor farmer’s family has now emerged as a judge. The education given to her through the hard work of her parents has now borne fruit.
Deepika S Shetty, daughter of Sridhara Shetty and Harinakshi couple, residents of Ilanthaje in Keyyuru village of Puttur taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, has secured 4th rank in the civil judge examination conducted by the Karnataka state judicial department for the year 2025.

Deepika S Shetty, who had been writing the judicial examination continuously for the past six years, has succeeded in her sixth attempt this time. She cleared the preliminary examination held in October 2025, passed the mains examination in December, and also performed well in the interview to qualify.
An only child of farmer couple Sridhara Shetty and Harinakshi, Deepika has been both a son and daughter to her parents. Having experienced the hardships of poverty from a young age, she studied at the government school in Keyyuru, completed her PUC at the Government Pre-University College in Keyyuru, and later pursued her law education at Vivekananda Law College, Puttur. She has been practising law in Bengaluru for the past eight years.
She says that the dream of becoming a judge arose suddenly after completing her PUC and grew stronger with each passing day. Even after completing her law education and starting legal practice, her focus remained on the judge’s chair. Hence, she appeared for the Karnataka state-level judicial examinations continuously for six years. Each time she faced failure, she motivated herself to try again with greater enthusiasm.
Now my dream has come true. Seeing the happiness in my parents’ eyes that their daughter is becoming a judge makes me feel that life has found meaning, says Deepika S Shetty. She added that after taking the oath from the Governor, she will have to complete a two-year probationary period.
