Kundapur, Feb 22: Unusual scenes were witnessed at Maravanthe beach on February 21 afternoon as large numbers of ‘Baige’ (Boothayi) fish (sardine) washed ashore near the Maraswami Temple, drawing crowds of locals, tourists and motorists who rushed to collect them.
Witnesses said people scrambled along the shoreline to gather the fish as they lay scattered across the sand. Several onlookers recorded the rare spectacle on their mobile phones and shared the videos on social media, where the clips quickly went viral.

Boothayi fish are generally known to move towards deeper and cooler waters during periods of intense heat. Their sudden appearance close to the shore has sparked curiosity and surprise among members of the public.
The unexpected phenomenon has triggered discussions locally, with many expressing astonishment at seeing the fish so close to the coastline.
