St Agnes College hosts ‘Vikram 2026’ life skills training programme for NCC cadets

Mangaluru, Feb 26: St Agnes College (Autonomous) organized Vikram 2026, a comprehensive life skills training programme and talent show for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, to celebrate the spirit of unity, discipline, and leadership among young cadets on February 19.

The event commenced with an inspiring inauguration led by Lt Col Rohit Prakash Rai, Commanding Officer of the 18 Karnataka Battalion NCC Mangaluru. The ceremony was presided over by Sr Dr M Venissa AC, the principal of St Agnes College. Also in attendance were Lt Gayathri BK, ANO of the army wing, and flying officer Dr Hitakshi B, ANO of the air wing.

The highlight of the day was a session titled "Empowering cadets: Life skills for leadership and success," by Akshatha Shetty, assistant professor, PG department of computer applications. Shetty motivated the cadets, emphasizing essential leadership qualities and effective communication skills vital for their development.

During the event, Lt Col Rohit Prakash Rai addressed the cadets, highlighting the importance of discipline, self-reliance, and seizing opportunities through the NCC. He encouraged the young participants to uphold the core values of the NCC and to make the most of the training and experiences it offers.

Sr Dr M Venissa AC, in her presidential address, shared valuable strategies for success and commended the dedication and hard work of the NCC cadets.

The programme included series of competitions, including Drill, Kholna-Jodna, switch paint, quiz, debate, and a cultural talent show. Participants from thirteen colleges and three schools showcased their skills, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition.

The festivities concluded with a valedictory ceremony graced by wing commander Praveen Kaveriappa, commanding officer of the 6 Karnataka Air Squadron NCC, who attended as the chief guest. He appreciated the enthusiasm and active participation of the cadets, emphasizing the importance of integrating NCC principles into everyday life.

He also distributed prizes to the winners, with SDM College, Ujire securing the overall championship, while St Aloysius Deemed to be University was declared the runner-up.

Lt Gayathri BK extended a warm welcome to all the attendees, while flying officer Dr Hitakshi B delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to everyone present. The event concluded on a patriotic note with the NCC song followed by the National Anthem, leaving the cadets inspired and motivated to embody the values of discipline, leadership, and service.
