Mumbai, Mar 1: The rollout of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses has witnessed an overwhelming response, with over one lakh registrations recorded within a week.

Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said the response reflects a strong push towards digital transformation in state transport services. “This number is not just a figure, it is concrete evidence of migration pushing towards digital transformation of ST,” he said.

The NCMC card enables passengers to make digital payments across multiple transport systems in the country and can also be used at select retail outlets, offering a seamless travel and payment experience.

The MSRTC has clarified that the smart card will not be made mandatory until at least 80 per cent of concession-holder passengers are registered under the scheme, ensuring that regular commuters are not inconvenienced during the transition.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at promoting cashless transactions, enhancing commuter convenience and streamlining fare collection across the state-run bus network.
