Thane, Mar 3: Two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh died in separate incidents of electrocution in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Tuesday. Investigations are underway in both cases.
The incidents occurred on Sunday night in the Kalyan and Dombivli areas.
In the first case, Sandeep Ghorilal Rawat (35), a native of Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh, was electrocuted while washing his hands and feet near a water pump at a relative’s house in Kalyan. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

In a separate incident in the Manpada area of Dombivli, Ajaykumar Dasai Gautam (20), a resident of Basti district in Uttar Pradesh, died after coming into contact with a live electric current.
Gautam was employed at a local biryani outlet. Police said he was washing his hands when he accidentally touched an iron rack inside the shop and suffered a fatal electric shock. He was also declared dead at hospital.
Police have registered accidental death reports in both cases and further inquiries are in progress.
Meanwhile, a container truck carrying biscuits overturned on the Nashik-Mumbai Highway in Thane district during the early hours of Tuesday, affecting traffic movement.
The accident occurred around 4 am near the Kharegaon Toll Plaza in Kalwa. According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell, the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend, causing it to topple onto its side.
The truck was en route to Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai and was transporting approximately 20 tonnes of biscuits at the time of the accident. Officials said the vehicle’s diesel tank developed a leak following the crash, resulting in fuel spilling onto the road.
Emergency teams took immediate precautionary measures to prevent any fire hazard. The damaged truck was later removed with the help of a crane, and traffic on the highway was restored after the area was declared safe.
Further investigation into the accident is underway.
