Moodbidri, March 16: A fatal collision near Beluvai on the Karkala–Moodbidri National Highway claimed the life of a young mini goods tempo driver on Monday, raising concerns over road safety amid ongoing highway works.
The deceased has been identified as Lester David D'Souza, aged 30.
According to police, the mini goods tempo was travelling from Karkala towards Moodbidri when it collided head-on with a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus coming from Moodbidri towards Karkala. The impact was so severe that the tempo driver died instantly at the scene.

Local residents criticised the authorities, saying that “with ongoing national highway works, proper traffic diversion arrangements have not been made. This has led to a rise in accidents in this stretch,” highlighting a recurring safety concern in the area.
Police confirmed that they are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the accident.
