Moodbidri: Six held in illegal cockfight raid

Moodbidri, Mar 19: Police raided an illegal cockfighting den in Moodbidri under the Mangaluru city commissionerate limits and arrested six persons.

Based on credible information, a group had gathered at Hoyipallabettu in Moodumarnadu village after a local fair and was conducting an illegal cockfight. The accused had tied sharp blades to the legs of the roosters and forced them to fight, while engaging in gambling by placing money as bets.

Acting swiftly, Moodbidri police conducted a raid at the spot and apprehended six individuals involved in the activity. The police also seized 17 live roosters used for the cockfight, two sharp blades, and cash amounting to Rs 1,480.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Further investigation is underway.
