Brahmavar, Mar 19: A tragic incident was reported on Thursday, March 19, at Garike Matha, under the jurisdiction of Vaddarse gram panchayat in Brahmavar taluk, where a man lost his life after drowning in an abandoned stone quarry.

The deceased has been identified as Arun (38), a native of Tamil Nadu, who was reportedly working under a local employer named Raja.

According to sources, Arun had entered the deep quarry pit near Garike Matha for a swim on Thursday afternoon. Unaware of the depth of the water, he reportedly moved further into the quarry and drowned.

The quarry is said to be over 30 feet deep. Upon receiving information, renowned diver Eshwar Malpe and his team rushed to the spot and successfully retrieved the body from the water after a rescue operation.

Brahmavar police, who arrived at the scene, conducted a mahazar and registered a case. The body has been shifted for post-mortem examination.

The incident has triggered public outrage over the lack of safety measures around such abandoned and hazardous quarries. Locals have urged authorities to take immediate action to prevent further tragedies.
