Udupi, Mar 21: A five-year-old girl who was found in a helpless condition at the government bus stand in Bannanje was rescued. The rescued child was admitted to the Child Welfare Committee office at Doddanagudde. Later, as per the committee’s order, the child was rehabilitated at Krishnanugraha Adoption Centre in Lakshmi Nagar.

During the inquiry, it was revealed that the child’s mother is a native of Gadag. Following the death of her husband, she had migrated to Udupi with the child in search of livelihood. Although she found a job to sustain herself, she had no place for accommodation, forcing both mother and child to spend their days at the bus stand.

They had been staying at the bus stand for several days. While the mother went to work, the child would remain at the bus stand. At present, the employer has arranged accommodation for the mother, and upon her request, the child has been handed over to her. Both are safe.

The public had informed the patrolling Akka squad about the child being in an abandoned condition at the bus stand. Subsequently, with the assistance of social worker Nithyananda Olakadu, the rescue operation was carried out. Members of the Akka squad including Rakshitha and Vanitha, staff of the emergency helpline centre, and child protection unit personnel Prakash and Vidyashree participated in the operation.
