Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 22: To facilitate the smooth return of passengers who had travelled to their hometowns for the Ugadi and Ramzan festivals, the South Western Railway (SWR) has announced a special train service. The train will depart from Madgaon and reach Bengaluru city via Karwar, Udupi, and Mangaluru.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru member of parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary) shared information regarding this service on social media. He stated that the special arrangement was made in response to public demand, as many passengers travelling from the coastal region back to Bengaluru were facing a severe shortage of train seats following the Ugadi holidays.

Route and schedule

The special train is scheduled to operate on March 22, starting from Madgaon and passing through the Karwar-Udupi-Mangaluru route to reach Bengaluru. Coastal residents have been urged to make the most of this additional service to ensure a hassle-free journey.

The special train will depart from Madgaon at 11:00 am. The scheduled arrivals at various stations are as follows:

  • Karwar: 11:28 am

  • Gokarna: 12:30 pm

  • Murdeshwar: 1:40 pm

  • Byndoor: 2:12 pm

  • Kundapur: 2:40 pm

  • Barkur: 2:55 pm

  • Udupi: 3:30 pm

  • Mulki: 3:58 pm

  • Surathkal: 4:14 pm

  • Bantwal: 6:00 pm

  • Kabaka Puttur: 6:28 pm

  • Subrahmanya Road: 7:50 pm

The train is expected to reach the Bengaluru Cantonment railway station at 5:00 am the following day.

Meeting high demand

The service has been initiated keeping in mind the heavy rush of commuters returning to the state capital to report for work on Monday. A similar special train arranged previously for Ugadi saw an overwhelming response, with over 700 seats being booked despite a mid-day departure. Authorities expect a similar high turnout this time as well.

In addition to the long-distance service, a special MEMU train from Tumakuru to Banaswadi via Yeshwantpur has also been scheduled for March 22 to assist local commuters.
