Mangaluru, Mar 30: The Kabaka Puttur railway station is all set for a major facelift, with a Rs 2.91 crore project approved to provide enhanced facilities for passengers, announced Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.
The development plan includes the construction of a sprawling new shelter covering a stretch on Platform No. 1, spanning 3,392 sq. metres — a significant expansion from the existing 531 sq. metres.
“The stretch of the shelter on Platform No. 1 has been finalised, and construction is expected to begin shortly. Once completed, it will greatly improve convenience for passengers at Kabaka Puttur station,” Chowta said.

In a bid to further ease passenger movement, a proposal has been submitted to install two lifts near Platform No. 2 and the existing overhead structure. The estimated cost for this addition is Rs 1.33 crore, and the plan is currently under review at the Railway Board, the MP added.
Recognising the urgent need for upgrades, Chowta had written to the general manager of South Western Railway in November 2024, urging expansion of the shelter. “Passengers currently have to board trains under scorching summer heat and heavy monsoon rains. This development is intended to address these long-standing difficulties,” he noted.
With the new shelter and modern facilities, Kabaka Puttur station is poised to offer passengers a far more comfortable and convenient travel experience in the near future.
