Bengaluru, Apr 2: With temperatures rising sharply across Karnataka, the meteorological department has issued a warning that the intense heat is likely to continue in the coming days, particularly in North Karnataka where scorching conditions are expected to impact daily life.
In Bengaluru, dry weather is set to persist, with maximum temperatures likely to hover between 35°C and 37°C. While mornings and evenings may remain relatively cool, the heat is expected to intensify during the afternoon.

Several districts in North Karnataka, including Kalaburagi, may witness temperatures soaring up to 42°C. The region is also likely to experience heatwave conditions, prompting the weather department to urge people to exercise caution. The impact of the heat is expected to be most severe between 12 noon and 4 pm, and the public has been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during these hours. Senior citizens, children, and those with health issues have been specifically cautioned to take extra care.
In coastal districts such as Mangaluru and Udupi, high humidity levels are likely to increase discomfort, leading to excessive sweating and a heightened sensation of heat. Although temperatures along the coast may not rise drastically, the weather is expected to feel oppressive.
In Malnad regions, particularly parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts, cloudy conditions are likely to prevail, with chances of light drizzles in some areas. Minimum temperatures in these regions are expected to range between 20°C and 22°C.
The meteorological department has issued a special advisory for people in North Karnataka, urging them to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
In view of the extreme heat, the state government has revised office timings in nine districts under the Kalaburagi revenue division—Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, and Vijayanagara—and under the Belagavi revenue division, including Vijayanagara and Bagalkote. The new working hours for government offices will be from 8 am to 1:30 pm, effective from April 1.
The change has been implemented due to the intense summer conditions expected during April and May. Government employees in these districts have been instructed to carry out their duties as usual without any disruption during the revised hours and ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience. The order also states that in case of emergencies, officials must perform duties beyond the stipulated hours if directed by deputy commissioners or zilla panchayat CEOs.
Overall, while different regions of the state are witnessing varied weather conditions, the severe heat in North Karnataka makes it essential for people to take necessary precautions.
