Udupi: Externment order accused arrested; ganja seized from car

Udupi, Apr 4: Police from Karkala town station have arrested an accused identified as Faizal, who had been externed from the district under orders issued by the special executive magistrate and the superintendent of police, and had earlier escaped after evading officials who had gone to serve the order.

According to police, when personnel went to execute the externment order and confirmed that the accused was within the jurisdiction of Malpe police station, a team proceeded to the Hoodde Nagabrahma Babbuswami Daivasthana near Paduthonse village. At that time, the accused suddenly reversed the car he was seated in, crashed into a coconut tree by the roadside, and fled from the spot.

The car was damaged in the incident, and a case had been registered against him at Malpe police station. Later, during the mahazar process of the abandoned vehicle, police recovered 173.42 grams of ganja, valued at approximately Rs 8,000. Two mobile phones found in the vehicle were also seized. It was learnt that the accused, along with another individual, was in possession of the contraband with the intention of selling it illegally. A case in this regard was registered at Malpe police station.

Faizal, a resident of Banglagudde Kasaba in Karkala and an accused in both the above cases, was arrested by the Karkala police sub-inspector and produced before the court.
