Chennai, Apr 5: Dr Aravind Radhakrishnan, son of the renowned Tamil Nadu bureaucrat Dr J Radhakrishnan IAS, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 80th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination. His success comes as an inspiration to many, as he balanced his medical career and rigorous hospital shifts with his aspirations for civil service.
An alumnus of Ramachandra Medical College (MBBS), Aravind’s journey was marked by perseverance. Despite failing in the preliminary rounds during his first two attempts in 2020 and 2021, he remained undeterred. While preparing for his third attempt, he also cleared the NEET PG exam and enrolled in an MD programme in General Medicine at Chettinad Medical College.

Aravind’s preparation was uniquely challenging. Unlike many aspirants who focus solely on studies, he managed 36-hour hospital shifts and emergency duties while preparing for the competitive exam. He chose Medical Science as his optional subject, leveraging his professional background to his advantage. In his third attempt, he secured AIR 361, but driven by his dream of joining the IAS, he made a final successful push to break into the top 100.
Speaking about his preparation, Aravind highlighted the importance of self-study and mental resilience. He credited his family for their immense support, noting that his father assisted him with mock interview questions and current affairs, while his mother and grandmother provided academic and emotional backing.
"One should not stop after a failure; instead, analyze the mistakes and put in a better performance the next time," Aravind advised future aspirants. With a total score of 989 marks (794 in Mains and 195 in the Interview), Dr Aravind is now set to join the Indian Administrative Service, fulfilling his goal of serving the public through policy and administration.
