Flight operations from Gulf to India improving; MEA assisting nationals

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 5: Flight connectivity from the Gulf region to India is steadily improving, with 90 non-scheduled flights from the UAE expected to arrive on Sunday, according to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Flights are also operating from Saudi Arabia and Oman, while Qatar airspace is partially open, allowing 8–10 flights to reach India. Airspace in Kuwait and Bahrain remains closed, but flights are rerouted via Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Travel from Iran is being facilitated through Armenia and Azerbaijan, from Israel via Egypt and Jordan, and from Iraq via Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The MEA confirmed the repatriation of 345 Indian fishermen stranded in Iran, who were transported from southern Iran to Armenia before boarding flights to Chennai. Additionally, the mortal remains of an Indian seafarer killed off the coast of Oman were brought back to India, with assistance provided to the family.

Indian Missions and Posts across the region remain in close contact with the Indian community, issuing advisories and providing round-the-clock assistance, including consular services, transit facilitation, visas, and logistical support.

The MEA emphasized that the safety and welfare of Indian nationals—including students and crew members aboard vessels—remains the highest priority. Missions are coordinating with local authorities, educational institutions, and testing agencies to address academic concerns and facilitate communication for seafarers seeking repatriation.

A dedicated control room continues to operate, maintaining regular coordination with states, Union Territories, and Indian Missions to monitor the evolving situation in the Gulf and West Asia.
