New Delhi, Apr 6: India has issued a fresh fertiliser import tender amid growing concerns over supply disruptions triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, impacting global logistics and energy markets.

Sources said the move comes as supply chains have been strained due to tensions involving Iran and the partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global trade.

India, one of the world’s largest fertiliser consumers, relies heavily on imports to meet domestic demand. The latest tender is aimed at securing adequate supplies ahead of the upcoming agricultural season to avoid shortages.

Officials indicated that volatility in global markets, rising freight costs and delays in shipments have prompted the government to act swiftly. The tender is expected to attract bids from multiple international suppliers despite the challenging geopolitical environment.

The disruption has also raised concerns over input costs for farmers, as fertiliser prices are closely linked to energy markets, which have seen sharp fluctuations in recent weeks.
